In 1855, George & Agnes Craw, second generation shoemakers set sail from Scotland on a decade long pioneering journey in search of prosperity and new beginnings for their to be 10 children.

Seven generations on and the coming and going of many land based industries those pastoral ridges, bush gullies and coastal cliffs continue to remain home to the Craw family.

Ridgecliff operates as a family sheep and cattle farm and has unwavering commitment to innovation and hard work. Farming practices are constantly evolving to ensure productivity and biodiversity conservation and restoration co-exist.

In 2018, over 140 years after George and Agnes settled in the remote Banks Peninsula settlement of Chorlton, current owners Hamish and Annabel Craw opened the doors to Ridgecliffs first escape ‘Accrington Farmhouse’. This began the start of a new chapter creating a holiday business sharing with people this unique and beautiful place.

Ridgecliff continues to evolve and in 2023 saw the opening of a second escape ‘Big Hill Luxury Retreat

Hamish and Annabel Craw

FARMERS | HOSTS | LEAD GUARDIANS OF RIDGECLIFF

Hamish is the 6th generation to farm the hills of Ridgecliff. A passionate stockman with an eye for developing landscapes. Hamish precision skills working a John Deere tractor have been instrumental in developing the paddocks and properties of Ridgecliff.

Annabel was lured over the hill to Ridgecliff after a career in events, marketing and agribusiness consulting. A self taught interior designer, gardener and accommodation host, Annabel is constantly inspired by the breathtaking wild and natural landscape she now calls home.
